One of my favorite things to do is go grocery shopping. I recently realized that most people think of grocery shopping as a chore. To me, it’s a relaxing experience that inspires me and invokes my sense of creativity. I basically grew up in a grocery store, so maybe I just feel more comfortable in one than most people do. I know the logical layout of grocery stores. I can walk into a store I’ve never been in before and tell you what aisle the dish detergent is in, and that the peanut butter will be by the bread, etc. Come on, this is common sense. It takes me forever to do my grocery shopping when I am doing it solo (which is my preferred style). The second I walk in the door my brain flips to cookbook mode and I’m categorizing and pairing ingredients and cooking methods in my head. Brainstorming my dinners for the week, coming up with fresh combinations and placing foods in my cart that I’ve never cooked with before. I always end up buying more than I put on my list, and I rarely actually look at my list. Since I walk down every aisle, it would be hard to forget something if they had it right? By the time I get home I can’t wait to start cooking. Maybe you should adjust your attitude about grocery shopping, think of it as a brainstorming session, and maybe you’ll enjoy it more.
